The 11th – 13th Century Capital: A World Heritage site
Once known as the capital during 11th – 13th century, Polonnaruwa is known as a world heritage now. It is 214 km away from Colombo. Include the circular Vatadage, the Thuparama image house, the Lata Mandapaya Pavilion, the Royal Palace – Vejayantha Prasada, the Gal Vihara depicting the seated, standing and reclining Buddha sculptured out of rock, the Lotus Bath, the Lankatilaka Image House, Nissanka Malla’s Island Garden, the ‘Sage’ statue and the Medrigiriya. It’s a city explored for its great ruins. It’s a metropolis where the largest irrigation tank built by the last King of the Polonnaruwa kingdom.
