Trincomalee is a little gem of a town located on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka. The beaches on the eastern coast are less crowded in comparison to the beaches down south of Sri Lanka.

Here are a few top places to visit in Trincomalee;

  • Nilaveli Beach
    The Nilaveli Beach has a beautiful white sandy beach and this is a perfect spot where you can drive on a motorbike due to the area being less crowded.
  • Visit the Small Restaurant and Cafes
    There are multiple restaurants and cafes on the stretch of the beach with great music, food and drinks and the sound of the ocean in the background.
  • Sri Pathrakali Amman Kovil
    The town is known for its rich Hindu culture therefore you can spot a lot of Kovils in this town. The Sri Pathrakali Amman Kovil is one of the most beautifully colored temples that you should not miss out on visiting.
  • Koneswaram Temple
    Another Hindu Temple you can visit is the Koneswaram Temple. You also get viewpoints of the Fort from this temple and the back of the temple has a stunning backdrop view of the ocean.
  • Snorkeling
    Don’t forget your snorkeling equipment! The clear water of the ocean in Trincomalee makes it an amazing place to snorkel.

    If you visit during March to August, a popular activity during this period is whale watching with a higher chance of spotting whales.
