About Pinnawala Open Zoo

The Pinnawala Open Zoo is the first open-air zoo in Sri Lanka and second zoo in Sri Lanka after Dehiwala zoo. Spread across a 44-acre land, the zoo is segregated into two sections, namely the Sri Lankan zone and the world zone. The main attractions at the zoo are the African Lions, Sri Lankan Leopards, Asian Elephants, Purple-faced Leaf Monkey, Chital, Sambar and the wild boar. The leopard enclosure is the largest animal viewing area of the park.

Location

The Pinnawala Open Zoo is in the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lankan in the Pinnawala Village of the Kegalle district. The zoo is 40 KM away from Kandy city (1 hr drive), 75 KM away from Negombo city (1 hr 50 min drive), and 85 KM away from Colombo city (2 hr drive).

Reaching Pinnawala Open Zoo

The zoo is located just off the Colombo-Kandy A01 highway of Sri Lanka. The zoo is easily accessible via public transport and the Rabukkana Railway Station is just 5 KM away from the zoo (10 min drive)
