The Lion Rock Citadel: 5th Century BC. A World Heritage site
Built by an obsessed monarch in the 5th century, Sigiriya or Lion Rock is an astonishing feat of engineering and construction. It is situated 171.3 Km north of the Colombo in the North Central province of Sri Lanka. This magnificent “Lion Rock” cannot be called anything but a World Wonder! Built by King Kasyapa, Sigiriya rises 200 metres from a thick jungle base. Amazingly it’s where you will find Asia’s oldest surviving landscaped gardens, beautiful bare breasted maidens smiling from amazing murals, a throne carved from naked rock and symmetrically planned ponds designed to supply water to an entire royal city.
